Blender

I’ve started using Blender!
I’ve been interested in 3d graphics for over 12 years, and have finally found the time to make use of Blender.
I was originally interested in learning Maya, and started building learning resources (this was about 6 years ago) but I’ve since become interested in open-source and Blender produces amazing results.  I’m currently [...]

Moodle

I’ve started building my own elearning platform!
I’ve been developing elearning strategies for some years now and I’ve provided a tutorial website at School IT Expert.  Now I’ve started a Moodle site that will allow visitors to join a course and interactively engage with other students and teachers!
This is a lot of work, but a very [...]

Ubuntu 9.10 release

Ubuntu is better than ever!
The latest version of Ubuntu was recently released and I really like it!  It boots up in about 15 seconds and overall it certainly feels slick.

Huru Helpdesk

I’ve discovered a new Joomla extension…
Huru Helpdesk
Huru is swahili for “freedom” which is quite appropriate seeing as it’s an open source solution.
It’s an excellent helpdesk that is inspired by the work done with Liberum, another open source helpdesk.

Openfiler

I’ve been revisiting an old friend this week… Openfiler.
I built an Openfiler iSCSI box about 2 years ago, to support an ESX Server implementation.  It worked well, and we left it to it.
Openfiler is now at version 2.3 and I’ve rediscovered what a brilliant SAN/NAS solution it really is!
It’s not only got iSCSI, but there’s [...]

School Plays

I built a new website today for Lea!
It’s called schoolplays.org and it’s where Lea can publish her plays and stories that she’s been writing.
She’s a clever old stick isn’t she!!

K2

Had a look at K2 today.
It looks like a promising extension to a basic Joomla website, but I’m going to see if it survives the next version of Joomla (1.6) before I start using it.
It’s headline feature is being able to nest categories / sections which is reported to be coming in Joomla 1.6 so [...]

GLPI Project

I had a look at the GLPI Project recently.  This is a really neat helpdesk application.
It was a really easy install, and looks nice and easy to use too!
So if you’re looking for a way to manage all those helpdesk tickets, and to keep track of your IT assets this solution could be just the [...]
